A Prayer For Vanity

Lord, when my vanity is at an all-time high, let me remember your Words in Matthew 6 from verse 19 to 21.

Do not store up for yourselves [material] treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. [20] But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal; [21] for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 AMP

When the scrolling on Instagram gets tough and I get fixated on the aesthetics and the seemingly luxurious lifestyle, help me to remember Matthew 6:24, that I cannot wholeheartedly serve you and serve money, possessions and a self-centred lifestyle. One of them will have to go (be of lower priority) and for what it’s worth, I know self must die.

Lord, I like nice things and I want nice things, so when I begin to fixate on the things I don’t have and begin to become ungrateful in the process, remind me that you have made me (wonderfully and fearfully) and have blessed me with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places and also, You are able to do ALL things exceedingly and bountifully far above my wildest most daring thoughts and imaginations according to your power at work in me. Ephesians 3:20 AMP

And then dear Father if (and when) my eyes are still wandering and my heart is murmuring, teach me to live like Apostle Paul, to be content both in abundance and in need. Philippians 4:11-12 NLT

Lastly dear Lord, remind me that no matter where and what I am, it is by Your grace and you will never forsake me, even if it’s difficult to believe. Romans 8:28 AMP

These I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
